About Beach Backpacker

Hi there, and welcome to my blog. So if you're here, I'm guessing you're wondering what this blog is about or who I am. Well, read on my friend. In 2012, after much internal contemplation, I made the decision to walk into my bosses' office and resign from my marketing day job at a great company. It was one of the scarier things I'd done at the time as I knew I was giving up comfort, happiness and security for an unknown future. Some might call it crazy, I called it a needed jolt to my comfort zone and way of life. Despite not having another job lined up, there was actually a plan in mind – which was to travel independently around the world for over a year...and that's where this blog was born from. This blog documents my journey across the world, as well as tips I've learned during my travels. When you travel alone, you get lost, embrace strangers as friends, order odd foods in weird languages and make a bad decision here and there, but hey, that's part of the learning process. And from such a process, I've learned a lot about myself and my abilities to succeed and make the best of any situation. I will share my experiences as well as tips that you can take with you should you look to challenge yourself in a similar manner. maori_001 And then there's me (I'm the one on the right...). Well, hopefully you've deduced that I think traveling is kinda cool. Beyond the travels I am a competitor by nature and love sports and being active – namely beach volleyball, golf, basketball – pretty much anything with a ball, I'm kinda like a dog in that respect...oh, and I love dogs. By trade, I am a marketer, but at my core I simply enjoy work that brings out creativity and passion, the "discipline" is often irrelevant. More than anything I seek opportunities in life and work that engage creating, learning and/or doing. And just newly added, I am now a business school student (kinda the polar opposite of travel & freedom), but I see the learning + experience overall as another extension on my travels documented here. Should you have any questions, feel free to say hello on Twitter. -Brian
